Our Approach
Our Approach
MPS has a reputation with its client base for being the very best at what it does. The company enjoys a reputation among its competitors for being fair and honest. It is our personal responsibility and commitment to ensure that we handle every client as “special,” and that we recognize every need as important. Anything less is unacceptable.
Our Story
Our Story
Miller Protective Service was founded in August 1973. MPS’ management made a commitment to operate the company – and conduct business - based on Christian principles. The products the company installed and the services it provided would be quality commodities sold to the clients at a reasonable cost, with a reasonable profit for the company. MPS continues to operate with those goals always in mind.
At its beginning, the company installed car radios, citizen band radios, car burglar alarms, closed circuit cameras, burglar alarms and music and sound systems. The original name of the company was Miller Sound and Security Systems, reflecting the main areas from which it derived income. Many clients that Miler Protective Service currently serves have had a professional relationship with the company since its beginning.
In 1977, Miller Sound and Security Systems formally changed its name to Miller Protective Service, Inc. and began to concentrate on building alarm accounts. From 1977 to 1981, the company experimented with various outside central station arrangements, but found that these made it difficult to maintain control over the quality of the customer service. Management decided to operate an in-house Central Station; and in early 1981, Miller Protective Service, Inc. became one of the few local central stations in the Memphis area.
In 1984 the company moved into its current location. It has expanded four times, culminating in an expansion that allowed MPS to improve the layout of its offices and configure backup power and computer systems to operate under almost any circumstance. The installation of a generator room below the offices enhanced the ability to operate the Central Station under extreme conditions.
The business plan set into motion in 1981 projected a UL Central Station Service by 1986. Miller Protective Service, Inc. became a UL Listed Central Station in January of that year. It achieved an FM listing in February 1997. Thus, our fire and burglar systems meet the rigorous requirements of these agencies. MPS’ Central Station was the first central station in Memphis to pass the fire installation requirements that UL set up.
